The large Primula vase was designed by Holmegaard’s first creative director, Jacob E. Bang. It was originally in production from 1936–1938. The vase is made of optical mouth-blown glass, which helps to give it a very beautiful, distinctive character. The design of the small Primula vase is based on the original, large Primula vase.
Jacob E. Bang (1899–1965) was Holmegaard’s first designer, employed at the glassworks in the 1920s. He is known as Denmark’s first industrial designer and the instigator of functionalism in Danish glassware design. Jacob E. Bang was also the source of the statement that is at the root of Holmegaard Glassworks’ mission: “Every Dane should have the privilege of owning a Holmegaard glassware product.”.
