Right now, mood design is one of the most striking trends in interior design. Mood design is not just about creating style, but also cultivating an overall atmosphere in the home. With the introduction of the Flow collection this spring, Holmegaard is riding this new wave with two mouth-blown glass candle holders that brim with mindfulness. The Flow series of candle holders fit tealight candles, pillar candles or flowers. Inspired by water which, like liquid glass, is constantly in motion, the designs have a sought-after tactility and a beautiful visual effect when the flame casts reflections on the table. With the launch of Flow, Holmegaard pays tribute to the sensuality and timelessness of glass. The design is created by Marion Fortat, design brand manager at Holmegaard and a practiced glass designer – and it is crucial for her that the iconic glass producer moves with the modern spirit of the day.

In 1958, Grethe Meyer and Ibi Trier Mørch created Stub – a multifunctional glass design that quickly became a modern classic for the breakfast table, dining table, kitchen and bar. The cylindrical, stackable design was in production for more than three decades, becoming a symbol of urban living that retains its design appeal even today. This spring, Holmegaard rejuvenates the iconic glass from Meyer & Mørch in a series of two designs – Little Stub and Big Stub. Like the original glass, they are created for all generations and purposes and are still stackable – allowing for downsizing without compromising on design. With Stub, Meyer & Mørch created the basis for refined glassware that never goes out of style, which is not by chance. Just like a wooden stump, the origin for the name of the glass, Stub is a timeless design with all unnecessary elements peeled away – leaving only the essentials.

Spring 2019» The strength of Stub returns
Although Sakura have existed for centuries, the phenomenon has only recently sprung into full bloom here. Thanks to social media, the cherry blossoms of spring have developed nearly a cult following – and Holmegaard now invites the floral mega-trend indoors with the launch of Cado. This artistic two-piece vase was created in collaboration with Japanese designer Fumie Shibata, who has translated Sakura to the world of glass in a multifunctional design that can be used year-round for all kinds of flowers and plants. With its mouth-blown clear and rose-coloured glass, Cado is particularly well-suited for fashionistas and floral admirers with a fondness for pink.

Right now, the Scandi-Japanese design connection is stronger than ever. Classical Danish furniture design finds a new twist when combined with Asian ascetism, and the ritual of Japanese design gains a fresh softness through the organic nature of Nordic design. This can be seen in the collaboration between iconic Danish glass producer Holmegaard and Japanese designer Fumie Shibata, who come together to present the Cado vase this spring. Fumie Shibata designs a broad spectrum of products, including ones for Muji, the sustainable, minimalist Tokyo chain. She describes the cooperation with Holmegaard as bringing out the best from both traditions while celebrating a new spirit of naturalness in modern interior design.
