Crosses

PRESS RELEASES

We have been rediscovering Danish design treasures in recent years. Among these is Bodil Kjær, architect and professor, and a cult figure among connoisseurs since the 1960s – but many will make a new and inspiring acquaintance when Holmegaard launches her characteristic Crosses vase this autumn. Bodil Kjær created the Crosses vase in 1961 based on a desire to address functional and aesthetic needs, and the iconic design is just as sharp and relevant today as it was back then. Crosses is being relaunched in three sizes. The colours have had a contemporary makeover and the vase is hand-blown in clear, smoky and transparent green glass.

Here you will find the press releases from the crosses collection:

Scala

PRESS RELEASES

Holmegaard, Scala, dansk design, opbavaringsglas,

The Scala Storage Jar first saw the light of day 25 years ago. In subsequent years, it has become a real kitchen classic. With its fusion of practicality, technology and aesthetics, this familiar storage concept remains highly relevant. That’s why Scala is making a comeback this autumn in a new, contemporary version reinterpreted by glassware giant Holmegaard. The iconic Storage Jars retain their famous functionality with a patented closure design and practical yet decorative measuring scale moulded into the glass. Today, however, it has taken on a more feminine design – and furthermore the nostalgic glass bottle and the four glass containers are now being complemented by matching water glasses.

Old English

PRESS RELEASES

The Old English series is rooted in a collaboration between Holmegaard and flower enthusiast Claus Dalby. The idea was to create a design that is not only beautiful in its own right, but also makes an aesthetically pleasing show of its contents. Since the introduction of the first vase, Old English has become cult among flower fans and garden lovers alike. Now this floral universe is being supplemented with a new design in ultra-elegant opaline glass that pays tribute to the Nordic colour palette and makes a perfect “canvas” for flowers of all kinds and in all colours.

Flora

PRESS RELEASES

As the daughter of Danish-English parents, Louise Campbell has roots not just in two different design cultures, but in two distinct floral traditions: the lavish, romantic English garden and the Danish fondness for simple, natural floral arrangements. With Flora, Campbell finds inspiration in Holmegaard’s vast design archives while clearly showing her affinity for Nordic minimalism, which runs like a connecting thread through all her designs. For generations, the iconic glassmaker has produced, among other things, classic glass containers like apothecary jars and beer bottles. And Flora marks a return to these shapes, albeit with a twist on the everyday products – as is always the case with Campbell’s designs. This also holds true for the classic flower vase, Flora, which has become a genuine Holmegaard neo-classic and which will again be part of the collection from spring 2017.

Palet

PRESS RELEASES

When glass designer Michael Bang created the “Palet” series for Holmegaard in 1969, he put aesthetics as well as functional storage on the agenda. Palet became an icon, bringing bright colours to Danish glass art, and last year, Palet was resurrected for lovers of Danish design and colour when Holmegaard reintroduced the series. Today, Palet covers the entire colour spectrum from vivid yellow to azure blue and orange-red, and now the series is being expanded to include two strong new products in trendy grey colours, which can be used alone for an air of elegance or combined with the existing accent colours to strike an understated contrast.

Palet

PRESS RELEASES

Holmegaard is rightly considered the Grand Old Lady of Danish glass design. The illustrious company dates back to 1825, but has happily never grown stodgy or lost its colourful nerve, instead the brand energetically keeps up with the times in the meeting of new, old and rediscovered designs. Last year, Holmegaard relaunched some of the most colourful pieces in the brand’s design archives, the Palet series, comprising a set of brightly coloured storage containers with wooden lids, which decorated kitchens and homes throughout the 1970s. This autumn, Palet is being augmented with more new products, albeit in black and white, in the form of salt and pepper mills.

Lumi

PRESS RELEASES

As a graphic designer and the creative mind behind Holmegaard’s modern classic “Design with Light”, Maria Berntsen is passionate about developing the Nordic candle culture. With her popular lantern series, she created a mobile light source in glass and leather, and with the new “LUMI” series, she embarks on another candle revolution. LUMI is made from matte-black metal and accessorised with collars in coloured glass, paying tribute to the brand’s roots in a surprisingly fresh combination of materials. LUMI is available as a candlestick in two different heights and as a four-armed design that maximises the impact of the candlelight and makes a striking alternative to the classic Advent wreath at Christmas.

Holmegaard Christmas

PRESS RELEASES

The Christmas tree is one of the strongest symbols of the modern Christmas tradition and the ultimate mark of the beginning and end of the holiday. In Scandinavia, the tree is generally brought in and decorated just before the big day, and then carried out again when the merriment is over. With such an important role to play, yet such a short lifespan, the Christmas tree deserves all the praise it can get – and inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, The Fir Tree, this is the aim of this year’s Holmegaard Christmas collection. Once again, Jette Frölich adorns the classic glass series with illustrations of her beautiful paper decorations, which have been featured on countless functional designs for the home with a colourful interpretation of a real Danish-style Christmas.

Old English

press releases

The vase is an important part of Holmegaard’s product DNA. Over the years, the glass manufacturer has lent its name to a long list of classic vase designs, but Old English is extra special. The decorative amphora-shaped vase is designed in collaboration with Danish flower-guru Claus Dalby, who was the first to put “designed for flowers” on Holmegaard’s design agenda. The result is a highly functional and exceedingly beautiful series of vases in clear glass that can now be supplemented with a new design for a single bloom: the solitaire vase.

One of his most famous projects is the 20-storey Royal Hotel, now the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, which literally brought Arne Jacobsen’s design to new heights, with everything from furniture and door knobs to textiles and glasses. Clear Pillars

press releases

The pillared “cluck cluck” spirits decanter is a true Holmegaard icon. The glass decanter with the humorous name and the beautiful design has been part of Holmegaard’s DNA since the factory’s establishment in 1825. Last year, it made a comeback with a special limited edition in honour of Holmegaard’s 190th anniversary. However, it appears the pillared decanter is here to stay, as spring 2016 sees the arrival of a clear version of the popular design classic. The transparent glass makes for a beautiful and becoming decanter for the Nordic drinks cabinet and the many flavourful homemade drams which are growing in popularity.

Bouquet

This simple and effective shortcut rejuvenated the Bouquet series to meet today’s needs, which call for ultra-modern and uncomplicated wine glasses for all occasions. In spring 2016, Holmegaard continues its focus on Bouquet with the expansion of the collection to include a brandy glass, a beer glass and a shot glass, putting elegance and functionality on the menu for every aspect of the contemporary meal.

Holmegaard has been a living symbol of the Danish glass heritage for 190 years, and the design archives feature both classic and colourful designs. At the colourful end of the scale are the Palet storage jars, which were originally designed by Michael Bang for Holmegaard in 1969 and ultimately became part of an extended glass series. With Palet, Holmegaard gave Danish glass art a splash of pop culture and the brightly coloured products are extremely popular among collectors. This autumn, new fans can also join the trend when Holmegaard relaunches the popular Palet jars in a range of sizes and colours.

Cabernet

press releases

Water is one of life’s priceless pleasures and according to current health guidelines, we should drink plenty of it. Two litres a day – and this is where a proper carafe is a great help, especially one that is equally suitable for daily life and when guests come calling. Holmegaard is therefore supplementing its classic Cabernet series this autumn with a water carafe. In harmony with Peter Svarrer’s distinctive idiom, the gently curving glass carafe has a buxom body, while the design is rounded off with a tight-fitting cork that also fits the Cabernet wine carafe.

ANNIVERSARY SPIRITS BOTTLE

press releases

The first thing many collectors think of when someone says Holmegaad is the “cluck cluck” bottle. The decanter with the peculiar name and the characteristic pinched glass design with the distinctive pillars has been part of the Holmegaard legacy since it was founded in 1825. This year, in celebration of Holmegaard’s 190th anniversary, it is therefore only fitting that tribute be paid to this iconic design. The 2015 “cluck cluck” decanter has been given an updated design featuring three pillars instead of the classic four and has been produced in a special anniversary colour, smokey brown, as a limited edition of just 1.825 bottles, available while supplies last.

As an extra feature, each new “cluck cluck" decanter comes with a label commemorating the 190th anniversary of the founding of the Holmegaard glassworks. They also carry the swan logo as proof that each bottle is unique and handmade with the artisan charm that characterises the finest quality blown glass – then and now.

Provence

press releases

Per Lütken’s glass Provence Bowl was first released in 1955 and has remained in the designer spotlight ever since. An accomplishment that makes the Provence Bowl a genuine classic and testifies to the timelessness of great design. Its beauty lies in the little details and the excellent craftsmanship, which have kept the design hot for six decades. And now Provence is being honoured with a special anniversary colour in smokey brown glass.

The anniversary bowl comes in two sizes – a brand new 15 cm size and the 25 cm size we all know and love – both equally multifunctional and decorative. As a trendy statement piece on a sideboard that strikes just the right retro tone. As a fruit bowl in the kitchen or on the dining table filled with plump pomegranates and juicy oranges. Or as a sculptural and avant-garde container for mini-orchids or heaps of cut white roses as a beautiful centrepiece, where less is more.

This Christmas, Holmegaard pays tribute to this little fighter in the 2015 Ann-Sofi Romme collection, featuring the Christmas rose as a motif on crisp glass ornaments and adding a natural poetry to this year’s design. Perfect for the Nordic winter look.

Old English

press releases

Spring is the season for flowers, both indoors and out, and florals are also one of the hottest decor trends this season. Cushions, prints, decorative objects and, of course, the dining table come alive with flowers and decorative vases are at a premium. Holmegaard has therefore embarked on a creative collaboration with Danish garden guru and floral artist Claus Dalby to create Old English. This new vase series in clear glass is the marriage of the best of Danish glass art and the English gardening tradition to produce the ultimate vase and flower bowl design.

The Old English goblet vase comes in two sizes that work well with both tightly bound bouquets and loose flowers. The narrow waist of the vase holds the flowers together in the spacious bowl, making plenty of room for the stems, while the wide brim holds the flowers up, helping even lush and heavy bouquets to stand elegantly at attention.

Urania

press releases

For nearly 200 years, Holmegaard has stood for the very best of Danish glass design, from beautiful wine glasses to hip lanterns with leather straps. And “the grand old lady” still keeps in tune with the times. In spring 2015, Holmegaard is embarking on a new chapter in glass history with the launch of Urania, an acoustic amplifier, designed by Aric Snee in the spirit of the low-tech trend, which also serves as a beautifully formed stand for your iPhone 4, 5 and 6.

Urania is formed from a single piece of blown glass, making it that rare work of art that is at once highly aesthetic and genuinely practical. Urania is available in clear and smoked glass in a simple funnel-shaped design reminiscent of the old-fashioned ear trumpet and conch shells from the seas.

Idéelle serie, glas, karaffel, dansk design

For 190 years, Holmegaard has set tables with glass art and created designs that last for generations. This season, the iconic glass brand has turned an eye to its own heritage with the relaunch of Holmegaard’s Idéelle wine and water carafe. The carafe is created by Malene Lütken, daughter of the legendary glass designer Per Lütken, and is a continuation of the inherited Holmegaard DNA and tradition for high functionality.

The practical folded glass lip also makes the Idéelle carafe a must-have on hot summer days. The characteristic fold is more than just a decorative detail; its highly functional design holds back ice cubes as you pour, making it a breeze to elegantly serve ice-cold elderflower cordial, cider and lemonade.

Bouquet

A good wine glass should be used and enjoyed on a daily basis – which requires a special glass. Holmegaard has collaborated for decades with leading Danish glass designers to create a wide variety of wine series based on authentic craftsmanship and modern functionality. One of these is Bouquet, created by Peter Svarrer in 2002, which is now being relaunched in an updated version with a shorter stem. This simple and becoming short cut gives the Bouquet series an ultra-modern look without losing any of its elegance or bouquet-enhancing design.

The series – comprising glasses for dessert wine, red wine, white wine and champagne – emphasises qualities that meet the specific demands of wine connoisseurs and is suitable for everything from fancy dinner parties to delicious, everyday wines.

Perfection is Holmegaard’s glass series for the wine enthusiast and the professional sommelier.

Many uses and traditions can evolve over time accompanied by treasured objects – like a lunchtime schnapps or an after-dinner cognac by the fire. Holmegaard Christmas

press releases

For years, Ann-Sofi Romme has spread Christmas cheer with her glass decorations for Holmegaard. Her style is simple and urban, but even forest animals sometimes venture into the city. For Christmas 2014 the owl is the motif for Holmegaard Christmas by Ann-Sofi Romme, and the collection also has a tempting new ornamental addition; the star.

Over the years, the Holmegaard Christmas series has celebrated Christmas in many design settings. For Christmas 2014, Jette Frölich is treating us to a picnic in the forest as her yuletide setting this year with plenty of well-known and treasured glass decorations inspired by snow-sprinkled nature. There is ice on the lake, snow on the fir trees and birds sheltering in the birdhouse. Not forgetting advent candles in the spotlight, mulled wine in the glass and cakes in the jar.

The Northern Lights

press releases

Since Holmegaard embraced the “upcycling” trend last year with the launch of the Northern Lights glass series, the desire to repurpose materials in the modern home has truly begun to gain traction. As conscious consumers, we are not only concerned about what we put on our plates, but about what our plates are made from, and in line with this trend, Holmegaard is now supplementing the Northern Lights collection with a generously sized plate designed for green meals.

Future

press releases

In Scandinavia, the Sunday luncheon used to be the most natural way to end the week for most families. It was an opportunity to get together and pamper the palate at a beautifully laid table accompanied by a beer and a snaps or two... Today, the Danish opened-faced sandwiches are seeing a renaissance as we again meet with friends and family around the luncheon table, not just on holidays and special occasions, but all year round. In spring 2013, Holmegaard pays tribute to the growing popularity of the luncheon table with the introduction of a snaps glass in the feminine Future series.

Here you will find the press about the beer glass and the snaps glass from the Future collection:
